Are you looking for an exciting career in international shipping? Our 2.5 to 3-year apprenticeship program provides hands-on training in the tramp shipping sector, preparing you for a dynamic role in one of our commercial shipping departments.
Your journey begins with a unique opportunity to sail on one of our vessels for a few weeks, giving you firsthand insight into life onboard and the operational side of shipping. This experience lays the foundation for your in-depth apprenticeship training at our offices in Lübeck and Hamburg, Germany.
Throughout the program, you will gain comprehensive knowledge of bulk carrier tramp shipping, working across various departments, including:
The main focus of your training will be in Marine Accounting and Operations, where you will actively support teams in their day-to-day commercial shipping activities.
The theoretical part of the program takes place at BS 09 Berliner Tor in Hamburg in the form of block teaching, with classes held twice a year for approximately six weeks each time. As this training is part of the German vocational education system, all theoretical instruction will be conducted in German.
In contrast, practical training at Oldendorff will be conducted in English, as it is the company’s primary communication language. You will work closely with international teams, interact with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds, and gain hands-on experience in a truly global working environment.
Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to join one of our commercial shipping departments, such as Marine Accounting or Operations. You will continue to develop your expertise, gain valuable experience, and may even have the opportunity for an international placement at one of our global offices.

To qualify for the shortened 2.5-year training period, you must have successfully completed Fachhochschulreife or Abitur.
